Second Phase of Lochbroom road bridges
Work has begun on the £350,000 second phase of a four-bridge replacement scheme at Lochbroom-side, near Ullapool, which will remove a long-standing weight restriction on the lifeline access to the communities of Letters, Rhiroy and Loggie.
In the £400,000 first phase, completed in June this year, two bridges were replaced. Phase two will see the two other bridges replaced.
The road carried by the bridges is the only access to the Lochbroom community and - with no diversion route available - part of the bridge replacement work will have to be carried out during a period of complete road closure, lasting about six weeks.
The road closure will be from 6am on Monday (30 October). Re-opening of the road is expected before Monday 11 December.
In close co-operation with community representatives, the Council is providing temporary footbridges at the bridge construction sites, a shuttle bus service, temporary car parking for residents and alternative arrangements for refuse collection and school transport.
The contractor for the works is RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd.
