Inverness coach tourism operations to improve
The Highland Council is to put in place a package of measures that will develop Inverness as a ‘coach friendly city’.
A Temporary Road Traffic Regulation order (approved in December 2014) for the creation of a coach drop-off / pick-up point on the Northern Meeting Park side of Ardross Street in Inverness will be advertised as a permanent Order. The permanent Traffic Order will change the use of pay and display parking to coach drop-off / pick-up.
For the start of the 2016 tourism season signage is to be installed across the road network; Ardross Street is to be promoted as the Inverness City coach drop-off / pick-up location; and a Coach Ambassador is to be recruited to cover seven days a week subject to the approval of an application for funding to the Common Good Fund Grant Sub-committee.
Provost and Leader of the City of Inverness Area Committee, Cllr Helen Carmichael said: “A dedicated coach drop-off and pick-up point supported by the appointment of a Coach Ambassador will greatly enhance the coach tourism experience for visitors to Inverness. Coach tourism is a major economic contributor to the economy of Inverness and the Highlands and I am pleased that we will have dedicated support for this important market.”
