The Ross and Cromarty Pipes and Drums school Drum Corps attended their first drumming workshop of 2016 at the weekend, an event requested by parents and band members following the success and popularity of a similar event last year.

The event was headed up by Highland Councils pipe band drum tutor Drew Caldwell with additional instructors, Louise Augaitis from Inveraray Pipe Band and Les Mackay. Drew was also delighted to get a surprise visit from three former pupils from North Lanarkshire schools pipe band one of whom is the current Under 15 World Solo Drumming champion.

The event was held at the Black Rock Campsite in Evanton with an additional event held in Plockton Hostel for the Lochalsh Schools Junior Pipe Band on Sunday. Over 50 young drummers from all over Highland benefitted from a weekend packed full of drumming and fun.

The event was also an opportunity for some intensive preparation for members of both these Area school pipe bands and those who are also members of Highland Youth Pipe Band as they work towards future events such as Scottish School Pipe Band Championships and Highland Young Musicians Concerts Festival in Eden Court Theatre on 12th March.
