Youth Orchestra concert in Strathpeffer
Highland Regional Youth Orchestra is in concert this Saturday 4th November at the Spa Pavilion, Strathpeffer.
The Orchestra draws together some of the most talented musicians from throughout the area, and gives them the opportunity to play in a full symphony orchestra. On Saturday they will be playing music by Shostakovitch, Dvorak, Chabrier, and Franck.
The orchestra which meets in different locations to spread the load of travelling holds concerts at least twice a year in the Highlands.
The Orchestra has been particularly delighted to have a long association with James MacMillan who was their musical director in the early years, and is now their Honorary Artistic Director. All those involved with the orchestra are also pleased to have a continued successful artistic relationship with Conductor, Susan Dingle.
Highland Regional Youth Orchestra is one of five Regional Instrumental Groups currently run as an extension to the work of the Instrumental Tuition Service in Highland. Membership for all the groups (Highland Schools Wind Band; Highland Youth String Orchestra; Highland Youth Big Band and snas’ (Ceilidh Band) and the Orchestra) is by audition / invitation and last session’s Regional Groups Audition Day was attended by over 200 musicians. More details of any of the groups can be obtained from Norman Bolton, The Highland Council’s Music Development Officer on 01349 863441.
Norman Bolton said: “All the regional groups are grateful for the continued support of “The Friends of Highland Young Musicians” (formerly Friends of HRYO). This group of supportive parents provide practical assistance at concerts when required and continue to seek much-needed sources of finance for the replacement of instruments, equipment and the subsidy of a number of the Groups’ activities.”
