Drivers urged to put the brakes on around Sutherland schools.

Motorists travelling in Sutherland are being warned that part time 20mph speed restrictions are being introduced at Bonar Bridge and Brora Primaries and Golspie High School for children’s safety.

The new speed limits come into force this week. This addition brings the total number of schools benefiting from new speed limits in Sutherland to 10 and in Highland to 81 at present.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

The new 20mph speed limits will the come into affect Mondays to Fridays during school term times at Bonar Bridge Primary School, from 08:40 to 09:05, 11:35 to 12:35, 14:30 to 14:45, and 15:00 to 15:15.

At Brora Primary School the times of the part time speed limits will be from 08:30 to 09:30, 12:00 to 13:30, and 14:40 to 15:30; and at Golpsie the part time 20 mph limits will be on Fountain Road at the side entrance to Golspie High School from 08:30 to 09:30, 12:00 to 13:30, and 14:30 to 15:30.
