Community projects look for your votes at Inverness West event
Community, voluntary and non-profit organisations based in Inverness West will come together on Saturday 25 June to present their ideas to the public in hope of receiving a grant of between £100 and £1500.
The call for groups to come up with ideas on how to make their local area better has received a great response and at the Your Ward, Your Cash, What’s Best For West event next Saturday in Kinmylies Church, representatives from over 20 groups will be making their bids to receive a share of the £10,000 available.
Doors will open at 10:00 for a 10:30am start. Each applicant will be given a 3-minute presentation slot and then will be quizzed by the audience for a further two minutes. Presentations will highlight how their project will improve their local community. All attendees will then be asked to vote to determine which projects are funded.
Councillor Graham Ross, who is a member of the Inverness West Organising group said: “I am delighted to see so many applications for the “Your Ward, Your Cash, What’s Best For West” grant fund.
“I would encourage everyone to come along to find out what is happening locally and cast his or her vote to help decide which projects are funded. We want as many people to attend so that the projects that are funded are a reflection of the priorities in the area. The event is more than just a way of distributing funding and we hope that it will be an opportunity for the whole community to come together.
This is the first time anything like this has been tried in Inverness so I am thoroughly looking forward to the event and I am sure it will be a showcase of all the great work that voluntary and community groups do in the area.”
Any individual who wishes to vote must register between 10:00 and 10:30 am and stay for the whole event. To be eligible to vote you must live in the Inverness West area (Ward 14) and currently be in the Primary 7 age group or above.
Kinmylies Church is on Kinmylies Way in Inverness so anyone coming along on Saturday 25 June should make sure they are in their seats for a 10:30am start.
