Council Welcomes Progress in Talks with Scottish Water

The Convener of The Highland Council Councillor Alison Magee has welcomed the progress being made in talks with Scottish Water to improve and extend water and waste water provision in the Highlands.

The Convener has met senior Scottish Water representatives twice recently to highlight Council concerns about delays to development caused by the absence of water and waste water treatment.

In response, Scottish Water has tabled an outline of projects that will deliver growth within the Council area over the next four years.

Councillor Magee said: “Clearly much work has still to be achieved, but I am pleased to report that our message is being picked up by Scottish Water and we are beginning to make progress. We will have further discussions with Scottish Water with the aim of getting more detail on the programming of some schemes and including certain high priority Council schemes.”

She said a further update would be presented to the Planning Development Europe and Tourism Committee on 27 September.

The Council is also set to convene a meeting with Scottish Water, Scottish Natural Heritage, SEPA and Communities Scotland to consider specific solutions to development constraints in the Highlands.
