Caithness Castle Capers

The Highland Council Countryside Rangers and Caithness Archaeological Trust are organising a special event this Friday (15th) focusing on some of the fascinating East Caithness Castles including the Castle of Old Wick, Sinclair Girnigoe, Old Keiss and Bucholie.

The event involves a mini bus tour leaving from Wick at 11am and touring along the East Caithness coast in search of these romantic ruins.

Marina Swanson, East Caithness ranger and event organiser said: “Caithness is covered in beautiful castle ruins but many are unsafe to visit or inaccessible especially without transport. This event aims to provide an opportunity for people to get out into the countryside to enjoy the beautiful castle sites and scenery.”

There will be some rough walking in parts and so a reasonable level of fitness is required as are walking boots and outdoor clothing.  A cost of £7 is in place to cover the mini bus costs and a soup/sandwich lunch at a local hotel on route.  To book a place or for further information, please contact Marina Swanson on 01955 607758 or e-mail: marina.swanson@higland.gov.uk
