Ranger walks in the Nairn area

Over the coming week, Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers will be holding two guided walks in the Nairn area to search for bats and fungi.

The Nairn bat walk will take place on Wednesday, 20th September from 8-10pm. Anyone interested in joining John Orr, Highland Council’s Inverness East and Nairn Countryside Ranger should bring a torch and meet at the Seamen’s Victoria Hall, on Harbour Road at 8pm.

John will give a brief presentation followed by a short walk to search for these amazing creatures.  He said: “We will be taking a close look at the weird and nocturnal life of bats using the latest technology to track them as they fly up and down the River Nairn.”

On Sunday 24th September, John Orr will also lead a guided walk celebrating the wonderful world of fungi. The Fantastic Fungi walk will take place at  Tradespark Woods, Nairn.

John Orr said: “This is the perfect time of year for mushrooms and toadstools and Tradespark Woods provides the perfect setting for a fungi investigation. We will explore the woods and answer many questions like: how do fungi work and what role do they play in the woodland?”
