Successful Gaelic Awareness and Fun Day held in Breakish
A very successful Gaelic Awareness Fun Day took place last Saturday in Breakish Hall on the Isle of Skye which was well attended by parents and children from the surrounding area
The event, which was aimed at parents and guardians’ of 0-5 year old children, gave those attending the opportunity to find out about the benefits of Bilingualism and Gaelic Medium Education. They also had the opportunity to engage with the Gaelic Community Learning and Development Officer, they were able to view and pick up the many resources available including CD’s, books and leaflets and get information on specific websites featuring pre-school Gaelic activities.
Over 20 toddlers and young children came along to the event and had lots of fun having their faces painting, listening to stories and playing games.
Refreshments and home baking were provided on the day by the local Gaelic early years group, Croileagan An Àth- Leathainn, with the proceeds raised going towards their funds.
Ms Frances Wilkins, a parent who attended said: “It was a busy and fun event with lots of families and children enjoying book reading, face painting, live music and refreshments. It was great to be at an event promoting Gaelic and bilingualism, and the resources on offer were really valuable for those of us planning on sending our children through Gaelic medium education.”
Councillor Hamish Fraser ,Chair of The Highland Council’s Gaelic Implementation Group said: “The Open Days which are organised by the Gaelic Team are important as they give parents the opportunity to see the resources which are available and also the support which the Council and other agencies provide in relation to Gaelic Education.”
