Contracts to be awarded for River Ness beauty spot

£225,000 works to improve a network of paths and bridges, river bank erosion and trees on the River Ness Islands in Inverness will be awarded to contractors next month by Highland Council on behalf of the Inverness Common Good Fund.

Members of the Council’s City of Inverness Area Committee have welcomed an update on proposed improvements to the Ness Islands Management Plan which was produced in 2015.

The aim of the plan is to ensure that the islands area is maintained and managed in an appropriate way.

Provost of Inverness Area Cllr Helen Carmichael welcomed an update report to Members, she said: “I am very pleased that progress is being made on the allocation of contracts to improve the Ness Islands which are a well-loved beauty spot by both locals and visitors to Inverness.

“City Members are supporting the improvement works with £225,000 Inverness Common Good Funding and we look forward to seeing the full benefits to this civic riverside amenity area next year and a report on the works progress back to the City of Inverness Area Committee in February 2017.”
