Interim elections for three Highland community councils

Nominations are being invited from people seeking election to three community councils in the Highlands. The three are Fort William Community Council, Merkinch Community Council in Inverness and Nigg and Shandwick Community Council in Easter Ross.

The deadline for receiving nominations is 4pm on Wednesday 1 February 2017 and elections will take place on Thursday 2 March.

To stand for election you must be entered in the current Electoral Register for the Community Council area, or if aged 16 or 17 years old, have completed a Voter Registration application. 

Nomination forms and copies of the scheme for the establishment of Community Councils can be downloaded from the Highland Council Website at
www.highland.gov.uk/info/799/elections_and_voting/643/community_councils.

Anyone interested in standing can also request a nomination form by e-mailing elections@highland.gov.uk, or by phoning the Council’s Service Centre on 01349 886606.

Completed Nomination Forms must be submitted to the following Ward Managers no later than 4pm on Wednesday 1 February.

Ward Managers will accept e-mailed copies of the Form, so long as it has been correctly completed and contains the signature of the candidate and witness.

If contested, these interim community council elections will be held by postal ballot.
