Adoption fees
We have to maintain an Adoption Allowance Scheme , but payment of an adoption allowance is the exception rather than the rule. An adoption allowance can be considered for example, if the child has an illness, medical needs, disability or complex health needs, is an older child or is part of a larger sibling group. These can include a one off payment at the time of placement to cover the cost of equipment, or to help cover the cost of introductions or an ongoing weekly allowance to ensure the adopters can look after the adopted child and purchase additional supports for them.
The Adoption Support Services & Allowance (Scotland) Regulations 2009, allows us to respond to individual family’s needs and circumstances. All adoption allowances agreed are reviewed annually by the service.
