Employment at elections
Opening and sorting postal votes
In the Highlands around 45,000 electors have registered to vote by post.
At the time of election, once completed packs are returned, they require to be opened, scanned and verified before they are included in the count on election night or the following day. This process may be observed by Election Candidates or Agents.
During a 3-week period prior to the day of poll, work is available over a number of sessions during office hours and may include weekends and bank holidays. You will be required to work as part of a team and can indicate which sessions you are available to work.
Only Council Staff are currently employed to carry out this duty, subject to permission from their line manager. You will be notified by the Postal Votes Team Manager as and when you are required to work during council working hours.
Full training is provided at the first opening session by experienced supervisors.
