Making a Request for Local Provision of Gaelic Medium Primary Education (GMPE)
The Education (Scotland) Act 2016 lays down a process for parents to request an assessment of the need for Gaelic medium primary education (GMPE) in their local area.
Statutory Guidance on Gaelic Education has been published by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the national public body with responsibility for the Gaelic language. This includes guidance on the GMPE assessment request process as well as general information and guidance on how Gaelic education is currently delivered in Scotland. This statutory guidance is available from Education Scotland.
How to request a GMPE assessment
If you are a parent who wishes to request an assessment of the need for GMPE in relation to your child, you should familiarise yourself with the Statutory Guidance and be aware of the evidence you will need to include with your request.
Parents in the first instance should contact the local authority to enquire about their child accessing GMPE. Please complete the form to request an assessment to assess the need for Gaelic primary education.
