School Estate Management

Nairn Academy

A replacement school building for Nairn Academy was included in Phase 2 of the Scottish Government's Learning Estate Investment Programme announced in December 2020, and capital funding for the project is included in our revised 5-year capital programme that was approved in September 2023.

The scope of the project is for a complete school building replacement with the existing changing pavilion, synthetic pitch and grass rugby pitch retained.

Balfour Beatty have been appointed as the design and build contractor working in conjunction with our in-house Property teams to deliver the project. The new building is programmed to be operational from August 2026 with the demolition of the existing building and external works to follow.

A Stakeholder Group has been established and the initial meeting took place in June 2021. Minutes of all Stakeholder Group meetings and other relevant information will be uploaded here.

Latest Update - Commencement of Construction Work

Construction work started during the school summer holiday period to form a new access road and commence some of the potentially disruptive earthworks while the campus was unoccupied. Work continued after the start of the new school session to maintain progress while the Council’s project team worked to reach financial close for the entire project with Balfour Beatty.

Financial close was achieved in October and the new building remains on target to be operational by August 2026.
