Corran Narrows Socio-Economic Study
The Highland Council, along with Stantec and HITRANS, shared the results of a study about the Corran Ferry with the Economy and Infrastructure Committee on 2 December 2021.
The study aimed to explain how important the Corran Ferry is for residents, businesses, and tourists.
The main finding was that, without a bridge, a frequent and reliable ferry service is crucial for the area's economy and future. Without investment, the ferry service could fail.
This study supported the need for funding the ferry service. As a result, The Highland Council received up to £28 million from the Scottish Government in November 2024 to build a new electric ferry.
Additionally, £20 million from the UK government and £10 million from The Highland Council will be used for the construction of new slipways and an overnight berthing pier to support the new electric ferry.
